Alone with Cobblestone - Owl's Head, Maine - USA
These beautiful creations were found on a rocky shoreline in Maine, at Owl's Head State Park. I came to see the lighthouse, and found myself spending most of my time admiring the fascinating and endless variety of cobblestone lining the beach. I imagine many people walk by, without taking the time to notice the intricate beauty Mother Nature provides us right under our feet. I had a fantastic time being In the Moment, Alone with the Cobblestone.
Silky Serenity - Clackamas County, Oregon - USA
Oregon is known for it's majestic and lush forests, jaw dropping waterfalls, rivers and landscapes. But there is simple beauty to be found here too, and everywhere for that matter. This meditative, serene scene in a simple, county park creek, was more than enough to fill me with wonder and joy on this peaceful day.
Mother Nature's Mural - Temecula, California - USA
This rocky mural was found while exploring one of the only wild rivers in Southern California, the Santa Margarita, in the Temecula/Fallbrook area. The river is lined by beautiful rocky canyons with incredibly gorgeous rock formations. I had to ignore no trespassing signs and even cameras to find this geological wonder at the base of the canyons. I don't think mother nature minded the trespass, and the experiencing of her beauty. All of these amazing colors and contrasts provided by millions of years of erosion. It's fairly subtle to the naked eye, but not from the 3rd Eye Perspective. Cranked up the edit to high intensity to make this art from god into an abstract piece of art.
Portland Head Leap - Portland Head Lighthouse, Maine - USA
They say this is possibly the most photographed light house in America. So naturally, I wanted to capture it in a way that would be a different perspective than countless others. The most fascinating aspect of this historic landmark, and of Maine in general, in my estimation, is the incredible craggy, rocky coast line. Being a lover of geology, and these formations, I wanted it to be the feature of the image. To do this, I had to take a leap over a fence, and ignore a few signs telling me not to do so. I felt this was the best way for me to capture this iconic scene, and I couldn't possibly settle for less.
Pavement Profundity - Dayton, Ohio - USA
It's been said, and has also been my experience, that the world around you is a reflection of what's inside of you. See beauty, love, and goodness inside of you, and you will see it in the world around you. It also goes the other way. As you open to see and experience more beauty outside of yourself, in the world, you'll more easily find it inside. It's all connected, and all a reflection. Here is a beautiful reflection found in the pavement, on a wet Winter day, walking along in an apartment complex. I imagine many would not see beauty in this scene, and perhaps wouldn't even be looking for beauty on a day such as this. For me, being present, in the moment, and knowing that there is beauty to be found everywhere, it was rather easy to see it reflecting back to me from the gravel ground of this parking lot.
Colorful Cove - Sunset Cliffs, CA
One of the most memorable features of San Diego are the amazing cliffs found along it's coastline. Tucked away in this cove, I was struck, and fascinated by the wonderful palette of colors! From the water color, to the shimmery colorful reflections, to the beautiful cliff in the background. Not to mention the funky, cool rock formation. These colors are as is, virtually untouched in editing. This was a high traffic area, and took patience and persistence to capture it without interruption!
Gray Day - Seal Rock, Oregon - USA
Oregon coast weather tends to be gray. A lot. That didn't deter me from exploring Seal Rock State Park on this day. The most interesting feature of the area is clearly the towering rock formations, commonly found on the Oregon Coast. Color was not required to capture the silhouette of these beauties. Seagulls hanging out around the forefront rock provided extra context. This was a moody, gray day, and when I created the capture, I envisioned it as a moody black and white.
Happy Place - Dana Point, California - USA
This rocky cove is a popular spot. I managed to capture this while a small wedding was taking place just to the right of the image. I sure do love rocks, especially rocks on the beach, and this fantastic cove delivers plenty of them! Cliffs, rocks, gentle waves rolling in, and retracting, and the sun setting is quite a prescription for my happy place, despite the crowd. In my own world of bliss and happiness, the streaks in the sand, from the waves retracting, is what captured my adoration during this sunset, and became the focal point of the capture.
Perhaps nothing fascinates me more than intricate formations and magnificence found in the minerals and geodes of our Earth. This is a photograph of a large rock, filled with quartz and crystal, found while exploring alongside a creek in Southern California. I altered the hues for more of a dramatic, artistic effect, but the myriad of colors & contrasts are provided to us naturally by mother nature. I also added a paint daub effect for some added abstraction.
Eternity - Temecula, California - USA
This piece was created from a photo of a large rock embedded into the hillside, in the hills of Temecula, CA. The actual rock was predominantly brown & golden. I drastically changed the hues to turn it into an abstract piece of art. However, the incredible range of colors & contrasts remains the same, and is what captured my attention, and fascination. I actually stopped the car specifically to capture this, having noticed it on my drive. This is also my first piece that I significantly altered into an abstract-psychedelic-digital creation from a photograph, having mirrored the image to create the effect. There are seemingly millions of colors in this piece, and the close up detail is truly incredible. As if eternity is contained within this wondrous creation of mother nature.
High Tide Pools - Higgins Beach, ME
This beach is small, and tucked behind a residential neighborhood (seen in the background) outside of Portland, Maine. With just one day to explore the area, I chose it specifically for these fascinating, isolated rocky formations found on the shoreline. I've never seen a tide pool this far from the water! You can see how high the tide needs to come to fill these pools. These rocks stretch for at least 100 feet, and I was like a kid on a playground climbing around, exploring, and challenging myself to create a compelling capture.
Photograph capture of a large rock embedded into a mountain. The original rock was predominantly brown & golden. I drastically changed the hues to turn it into a piece of art, however the incredible range of colors & contrasts remains the same, and is the reason I originally captured it. There are literally millions of colors in this piece. The up close detail is staggering. I also lightly altered it to appear as paint brush strokes. There is a psychedelic variant of this piece titled: "Rock Formations".
