Silky Serenity - Clackamas County, Oregon - USA
Oregon is known for it's majestic, lush forests, jaw dropping waterfalls, rivers and mountain landscapes. But there is simple beauty to be found here too, and everywhere for that matter. This meditative, serene scene in a simple county park creek, was more than enough to fill me with wonder, joy, and gratitude for life on this peaceful day.
Adirondack Rising - Adirondack Mountains, New York - USA
This sunrise in the Adirondack Mountains of New York filled me with an immense feeling of awe and gratitude for the beauty and majesty of Mother Nature, and life. Left the campsite extra early this morning, before sunrise, with no particular destination in mind. Stopped at this lake, just one of the 3,000 lakes and ponds in the Adirondacks, feeling it would be a wonderful place to watch the sun rise over the mountains. I was already feeling an excitement and connection to the pristine beauty surrounding me, which was added to by this magnificent scene. The rising sun, clouds, calm waters, and silky, metallic reflection fulfilled my soul, and was quite the reward for a somewhat rare early morning rising.
Rush - Smokey Mountains National Park, Tennessee - USA
This powerfully cascading river in the Smokey Mountains National Park gave me quite a rush. A rush of excitement, of energy, and connectedness to Mother Nature. Found on a random trail off the side of the road, I was in my own private Heaven in this spot. Wanting to capture the essence of the excitement and the rush this scene provided me, I turned the camera to provide this perspective, with the cascading water as the focal point.
Electric Ripples - Plymouth, Massachusetts - USA
After a full day of touristy, pilgrimmy things, this was a refreshing, spontaneous stop on my way out of Plymouth. Found on the small inlet of Plymouth Long Beach. Strolling and observing, I became fascinated by these rippled, wavy reflections of light. The shell is submerged in the water, allowing it's brilliant colors to shine. Thousands, if not millions of crushed up seashell bits can also be seen here. The black in the sand is from the proximity to the road, and accumulated dirt & debris.
From the Boat - Niagara Falls, New York - USA
Taken from the maids of the mist boat tour. Had to overcome the mist, a moving boat, and a packed standing room only crowd to create this capture on a dramatic cloudy day!
Fall at Quechee Gorge - Vermont, USA
The Quechee Gorge is called "Vermont's Little Grand Canyon". It was covered by glacier's 13,000 years ago and carved out by the melting glaciers. It's considered to be Vermont's most spectacular natural wonder. This top down view was taken from the bridge that crosses over the gorge, with a spectacular showing of the Fall colors that draw visitors from near and far to Vermont.
Fall Fascination - Glen, New Hampshire - USA
Much of my work comes from stopping the car when passing a scene that fascinates me, often standing on a thin shoulder of road, with cars buzzing by, probably thinking I'm crazy! This is one of those times, and one of the more memorable of them. A beautiful roadside scene in a tiny NH town, on the edge of the White Mountains. I especially love creating art from these spontaneous, inspired moments of awe and fascination with every day scenes that are available to all of us, and are so often overlooked.
The Land of Wow - Jemez Mountains, New Mexico - USA
The 1,000 words of this image sum up how I feel about North Central New Mexico. They call NM the land of enchantment, and it is incredibly enchanting. In this moment, it was the "Land of Wow". Spent the day on a scenic drive through the Jemez Mtns. I was already in a state of heavenly bliss from the breathtaking, and diverse treasures found on this drive. One of the best in America. When I looked out to this scene, my heart skipped a beat, I stepped out of the vehicle, and exclaimed out loud: "WOW". I've attempted to convey the feeling in this capture, with fairly minimal post processing. This is the scene, as seen.
Southwest at It's Best - Southwest Texas, USA
The Pecos River deep in Southwest Texas, near the Mexico border. Passed by this fascinating landscape while driving deep in a remote area of Texas, on the way to Big Bend National Park. Having traveled from the Southeast, across the South through Texas, it was when I arrived at this stunning scene that I felt I had officially arrived in the Southwest. Known for it's vast landscapes, canyons, and rock formations, I felt that this unexpected scene well represented the Southwest at it's Best.
Still Winter Water - Dayton, Ohio - USA
A Winter scene in Dayton, Ohio. The Stillwater River, on Old Springfield Road in Union. This scene caught my attention, and fascination while passing it on the bridge. I pulled the car over to capture it, and as I often do, had to be cautious of the traffic passing by. It would have been easy to miss a scene like this, had I been focused on my destination, or focused on getting out of the cold. Instead, I was focused on experiencing the beauty and wonder that this Still Winter Water provided to me.
This scene absolutely took my breath away. On a cross country trip traveling through stunning Colorado in May, stopping at Exit 111 was an absolute must!! I could hardly believe the intensity of the green trees covering these mountains. It may seem as though I've photoshopped the green in this image, but this is what mother nature gave us. The Colorado river flowing through this valley, the bridge adding a touch of character, and a perfect cloudy blue sky provided much majesty & joy on this stop.
This magical, colorful sunrise was taken at Lake Riverside Estates in Aguanga, CA from the driveway of my residence. Elevation approximately 4k feet. I was provided unforgettable sunrises at this location on a daily basis, as the sun would come up over the East mountains, providing these gorgeous colors, reflected beautifully by the lake. What a magical way to start the day.
Sublimity - Temecula, CA - USA
It's these types of details of nature, and God's beauty that simply astonish me, cause me to take serious pause, and reflect on the magnificence of our existence. So subtle, so simple, so easily overlooked, yet so sublime. What was interesting about this patch of dew is the fact it was found in the afternoon around 1pm, when it's usually found early in the AM. Hiking through a field off the roadside, this glimmering patch caught my eye in passing & called to me from the grass. With my basic kit lens, I spent considerable time, meticulously capturing the full range of colors and all of it's subtleties, in an effort to represent the fascination and joy this simple, sublime beauty provided to me.
Winter Whimsy - Dayton, Ohio - USA
On a typical Winter morning, feeling a bit mundane from the weather, I looked outside the front window, and became filled with wonder and excitement from these rain drops dangling on the ends of the bare winter branches. Each branch contained a drop of water, providing a fascinating scene of glistening sunlight and reflections. With this whimsical mood change I grabbed the camera, and immersed myself for quite a while in a world of simple, subtle beauty, hoping to capture and convey the feeling of wonder it provided to me. The reflection of the bare tree seen in the singular focal point of the drop. As with most of my work, this piece was created with a basic kit lens.
Beauty in the Dark - Aguanga, California - USA
"As awareness grows, we begin to see beauty, even in the darkest of reflections". The entire sky was covered with these beautiful dark storm clouds on this day. Walking around the lake, I was absolutely amazed by the beauty of the reflection provided. So many intricate patterns & endless contrasts. Rather than think about, and focus on the threat of the looming storm, I focused on finding the beauty in this dark scene. The original shot was very gloomy & grey, and I made an effort in editing to brighten it up and give it some color.
Winter Silence - Dayton, Ohio - USA
Even in the dead of Winter, there is beauty to be found all around, as long as we are in the moment and available to perceive it. This scene was found at the Englewood Metro Park in Dayton, Ohio. A small, temporary pond had formed from the overflow of the lake. I spotted it from a distance, and walked to the edge, silently observing the beauty revealed and reflected back to me. I decided on some creativity in the edit, turning it into a silhouetted scene with a sepia/bronze filter.
Psychedelic Bloom - Canyon Lake, CA - USA
Don't ask me what kind of flower this is, I'm not a botanist :) However it sure did mesmerize me for a while. The size of this is approx 2.5 to 3 inches, and they bloomed plentifully on a bush, found in the backyard of a friend's neighbor's house at 6am. Why was I up at 6am on this day? I can't really recall ;) but I sure was happy to spend about 20-30 minutes with this strikingly beautiful flowers with psychedelic yellow, purple, and pink hues. The colors are unaltered, and the 6am dew drops were an added bonus. Was also intrigued by the spiraling center.
Reverent Reflection - Dayton, Ohio - USA
"It all begins with "reverence for life".. the revealing of the mysteries, the occurrences of magic.. when we learn to appreciate the simple magnificence of life, the extraordinary appears more often.. Mere reverence, wonder, and awe for our experience expands the mind, and connects us to a universal source.. What we label this reverence is of no importance.. call it Jesus, call it source, call it divinity, doesn't matter.. I use many phrases, but tend to settle on "intelligence" - something beyond our limited scope that puts it all together & holds it in place. Matter of fact it's the labeling and attaching to ideas of what it is that closes the mind & puts us in divisive & defensive modes.. stops us from experiencing true wonder.. Thankfully we're provided opportunities moment to moment to practice being in awe.. the beauty & diversity of our planet.. the diversity & beauty of the strangers we meet.. so much beauty to observe.. so many reminders, so many reflections" ~ BBB Tree and bushes reflection in a downtown, city park, man made pond in Dayton, Ohio
