Blue Mountain Majesty - North Carolina, USA
If you love mountains as much as I do, and especially if you love blue as much as I do, it doesn't get any better than the Blue Ridge Parkway. A 469 mile stretch through the Smokey Mountains in Virginia, and North Carolina. Along this stretch, are endless and breathtaking expanses, and vistas. Famed, and aptly named for the gorgeous blue ridges. This was taken near Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in the Eastern U.S. I was lucky, on this day trip to Mt. Mitchell, to be treated to a fairly nice sunset, which allowed me to capture these gorgeous blue ridges in all of their majesty. I'm often asked if these are the REAL colors, and yes they absolutely are real, as the eye sees it, and as I usually aim for in my final product. Only minor enhancement to increase the vividness of the scene.
Painted Reflection - Lake Champlain, Vermont-New York - USA
A glorious display of sunset colors, painted across the sky and water, with the sun setting behind the Adirondack Mountains of New York. Taken from Vermont looking across Lake Champlain.
White Magic - White Sands Nat'l Monument, New Mexico - USA
I believe in magic, and I believe in wonder. And I believe they can be experienced every day in the simplest of ways. The smile of a stranger is magical. The light in another's eyes. The sun peeking through the clouds. The bountiful blooms of nature. Everywhere we go, and everywhere we look, we can experience a sense of magic and wonder. Having been fortunate enough to experience the White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, this sense was on maximum overload. It's a true wonder of nature. The geological process of how these pristine, towering, awe inspiring white sand dunes formed is fascinating, as is the experiencing of them. Add in the surrounding New Mexico mountains and desert flora for an extra dash of mysticism. Perhaps more than any other locale that I've experienced in my journeys, I was filled with an immensity of wonder, awe, and connection to something greater, and so much more powerful than myself. My spirit and soul was vibrating with excitement and aliveness, in this place of pure magic.
Picture Perfect - Cherohola Skyway, North Carolina - USA
A perfectly picturesque dusting of snow along the Cherohala Skyway, winding across, and along the Tennesee-North Carolina border in the Smokey Mountains. Decided to explore this national scenic byway on a December day. The threat of snow was minimal, so I was a bit surprised, and even a bit anxious when it began to fall at the higher elevations. Thankfully, it stopped, and the anxiety turned to pure excitement, as it turned out to be just enough to provide this fantastic, lovely scenery along the drive, including this picture perfect vista.
The Land of Wow - Jemez Mountains, New Mexico - USA
The 1,000 words of this image sum up how I feel about North Central New Mexico. They call NM the land of enchantment, and it is incredibly enchanting. In this moment, it was the "Land of Wow". Spent the day on a scenic drive through the Jemez Mtns. I was already in a state of heavenly bliss from the breathtaking, and diverse treasures found on this drive. One of the best in America. When I looked out to this scene, my heart skipped a beat, I stepped out of the vehicle, and exclaimed out loud: "WOW". I've attempted to convey the feeling in this capture, with fairly minimal post processing. This is the scene, as seen.
Top Notch - White Mountains, New Hampshire - USA
The peak Fall color in New Hampshire is nothing short of magical. And nothing tops the color found in Franconia Notch State Park in the White Mountains National Forest.
Beauty in the Dark - Aguanga, California - USA
"As awareness grows, we begin to see beauty, even in the darkest of reflections". The entire sky was covered with these beautiful dark storm clouds on this day. Walking around the lake, I was absolutely amazed by the beauty of the reflection provided. So many intricate patterns & endless contrasts. Rather than think about, and focus on the threat of the looming storm, I focused on finding the beauty in this dark scene. The original shot was very gloomy & grey, and I made an effort in editing to brighten it up and give it some color.
Adirondack Rising - Adirondack Mountains, New York - USA
This sunrise in the Adirondack Mountains of New York filled me with an immense feeling of awe and gratitude for the beauty and majesty of Mother Nature, and life. Left the campsite extra early this morning, before sunrise, with no particular destination in mind. Stopped at this lake, just one of the 3,000 lakes and ponds in the Adirondacks, feeling it would be a wonderful place to watch the sun rise over the mountains. I was already feeling an excitement and connection to the pristine beauty surrounding me, which was added to by this magnificent scene. The rising sun, clouds, calm waters, and silky, metallic reflection fulfilled my soul, and was quite the reward for a somewhat rare early morning rising.
Another one of my personal favorites. This was the first time I set out on day long photographic journey, roaming the hills of Temecula, CA. This was taken to the East of wine country on Black Mountain Road, between Lake Skinner & Diamond Valley Lake. I was very happy to come across this peak with beautiful views of the mountainous landscape, and the color in the sky at this moment in time was simply magnificent.
The sunset was so spectacular this evening that I created six different pieces from it. We were camping high up in the mountains near Idyllwild, CA in the San Jacinto Mountains. I scoped the spot out earlier in the day, and anxiously returned & camped out for sunset. To me, this feels like a sunset you would see on another planet, with the intensity of the red, and the vast mountainous landscape.
This magical, colorful sunrise was taken at Lake Riverside Estates in Aguanga, CA from the driveway of my residence. Elevation approximately 4k feet. I was provided unforgettable sunrises at this location on a daily basis, as the sun would come up over the East mountains, providing these gorgeous colors, reflected beautifully by the lake. What a magical way to start the day.
Through The Pines - Idyllwild, CA
I was camping at about a mile high elevation near Idyllwild, CA in the San Jacinto Mountains. Having scoped this spot out earlier in the day, I anxiously returned to soak in & capture the sunset. Idyllwild is a magical place, surrounded by towering pine trees. The sunsets are sublime, looking westward over 100 miles towards the California coast. I had captured 5 or 6 "art worthy" shots from this sunset, and this one produced the most memorable feeling. In the moment, an idea sparked. Find a spot where I can frame the sun inside of the pines. So I ran around with camera in hand, becoming filled with happiness & excitement when I found my spot, knowing it would convey the majesty of this sublime setting & sunset.
Taken in Zion Nat'l Park Utah. I was absolutely in love with this beautiful flowering cactus, and lucky to have a majestic backdrop & beautiful sky to give it added depth & character. This was in the middle of the main road in the median. I spent a few minutes with it, having to watch out for oncoming traffic, including a tour bus driver slowing down to motion at me & look at me like I was crazy!! Obviously, he wasn't seeing what I was seeing :-)
This scene absolutely took my breath away. On a cross country trip traveling through stunning Colorado in May, stopping at Exit 111 was an absolute must!! I could hardly believe the intensity of the green trees covering these mountains. It may seem as though I've photoshopped the green in this image, but this is what mother nature gave us. The Colorado river flowing through this valley, the bridge adding a touch of character, and a perfect cloudy blue sky provided much majesty & joy on this stop.
Fantastic Farewell - New Hampshire, USA
New Hampshire captured my heart in many different ways. Being there during the peak Fall colors certainly helped with the romanticism, and allowing it to make it's way into my heart forever. While driving on my way out of New Hampshire, just before entering Maine, I was treated to this absolutely lovely scenic view. What more could I have asked for while saying farewell to my new love? Fall colors, valley, mountains, and foggy clouds rolling through. What a way to remember her by.
I call this "Ordinary Mountain View" because there was inherently nothing spectacular about this particular day or sunset. Although I still see it as "extra" ordinary. This can probably be seen just about every evening in the mountain town of Idyllwild, CA. I went on a drive to find high ground to capture the sunset, and while it wasn't particularly spectacular, I was absolutely pleased with the result of this shot. I reached a high enough elevation to have a lovely vast view, providing several mountainous layers, and varying hues. I just seemed to be in the right place at the right time to capture these lovely pink & purple hues on this evening as the sun was beginning to set. I was also happy to find a spot where I could highlight the trees with some boulders in the forefront of the shot.
The sunset was so spectacular this evening that I created six different pieces from it. We were camping high up in the mountains near Idyllwild, CA in the San Jacinto Mountains. I scoped the spot out earlier in the day, and anxiously returned & camped out for sunset. This is looking westward over the Hemet Valley & toward the ocean. Diamond Valley Lake can be seen in the shot. I really enjoyed how much of the sky was covered by the golden/orange hues of this magnificent sunset.
The sunset was so spectacular this evening that I created six different pieces from it. We were camping high up in the mountains near Idyllwild, CA in the San Jacinto Mountains. I scoped the spot out earlier in the day, and anxiously returned & camped out for sunset. I call it "Like A Dream" because it feels so very surreal. This image is altered a bit heavier than most to give it the very dramatic depth of colors & contrasts.
